A new website for the local community, which explains the council's plans for the regeneration of Old Kent Road, has been launched
Oldkentroad.org.uk, set up by Southwark council, highlights the road’s central London position, transport connections, “and its unique character [that] makes it a great place to live, work and do business.”
It will sit in tandem with the existing elephantandcastle.org.uk website, devoted to updated news and events around the regeneration of Elephant and Castle.
With a 20-year investment programme along the three-mile long Old Kent Road, the new website gives information on: plans for the future of the Old Kent Road; the Bakerloo line extension; businesses, and planning applications map.
It states: “We want to build on [its] strengths [to] deliver real, tangible benefits for the local community.
“We will develop its thriving business, arts and cultural communities and transform Old Kent Road as a place to live, work and visit.”
Southwark Council has bought Courage Yard on Shad Thames, near Tower Bridge, which it will redevelop to generate income for frontline services.
