A popular exhibition that celebrates Southwark's LGBT History and people will be going on tour this month with two outreach events within the borough.
Curated by Southwark Council Libraries and Archive Service, and supported by the Southwark LGBTQ Network, the Southwark QueerStory exhibition opened at Peckham Levels earlier this year for LGBTQ History Month, using the Southwark archives to uncover a world of LGBTQ culture and forgotten stories from the 1930s to the 2000s.
The Tate Modern event will feature a film screening during the evening, showing previously unseen images from Soutwark’s LGBT collections and a soundtrack from Peckham-based musician Rina Mushonga.
Peter John, leader of the council, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about, and celebrate, the long and important history of the LGBTQ communities in Southwark and the impact they had on the national stage, paving the way for LGBTQ equality."
Southwark Council has bought Courage Yard on Shad Thames, near Tower Bridge, which it will redevelop to generate income for frontline services.
