Newington Causeway-based Italian farmer's market Mercato Metropolitano launched its first sustainable food celebration on 7 September, ahead of the main weekend-long event on 15-17 September, as part of the Urban Food Fortnight.
The Sustainable Food Weekend explores Mercato Metropolitano’s mission of changing people’s attitudes to food safety, the environment, sustainability, and socialising in London.
The weekend featured free seminars, cookery classes, workshops, film showings and talks by leading food chefs and experts, including Mercato’s founder Andrea Rasca, and sustainability fellow Dr Paolo Taticchi of Imperial College Business School.
Rasca said: “The Sustainable Food Weekend is a celebration of a new movement of artisans, farmers, innovators and consumers who believe that an amazing, sustainable, healthy and fair future is possible.”
